Therapeutic Beekeeping Program

We work to create a positive, enlivened, supportive network around the bee yard enhancing community through apiculture.

The heart of our work is in therapeutic mentorship of at-risk communities in the art of beekeeping. We work to create a positive, enlivened, supportive network around the bee yard. In essence, we seek to enhance community through apiculture.

Beekeeping, and the culture that surrounds the hive, has incredibly therapeutic capacity, regardless of socio-economic status or background, if practiced with that intent.

Our core work focus on creating partnerships with other non-profit organizations, providing supportive opportunities for at-risk populations.

Our programming fosters self-worth and pride, offers meaningful and inclusive opportunities, and connects people to supportive community.

Currently we have therapeutic apiaries at Hastings Urban Farm, Hastings Folk Garden and Hugh Bird Residence in partnership with the Portland Hotel Community Service Society; at The Lux Hotel, Fraser Street Transitional Housing, The Budzey Apartments and Marguerite Ford Apartments in partnership with RainCity Housing; and at Sorella House for Women in partnership with ATIRA Women’s Resource Society. Each of these programs is designed in collaboration with staff and community members at each location, and responds to specific needs and opportunities in each place, with each participant.

We extend this work to be inclusive of all communities, as we believe that we are all seeking connection, to nature and to each other.

We facilitate creative and welcoming workshops that build skills, enhance teamwork, provide wellness and connectivity, for communities ranging from after school care groups to corporate volunteer groups.
